Time and time again, I have referenced Seth Godin’s blog and how powerful his thoughts have been and continue to be. I mean seriously, the dude is amazing. So amazing, in fact, that all you have to do is Google the word “Seth” and his blog is the first result. How’s that for SEO optimization?
Today he posted an article titled “A new normal” and I would encourage you to read it. Most of his posts take less than a minute to read and you will gain instant value in both a philosophical sense and in reality. Trust me on this, you’ll see it.
What is interesting for this post is how his thoughts cross paths with my other favorite guy, Gary Vaynerchuk. Gary says that people today have a way of romanticizing the past and demonizing the present. You know the saying, “I want things to be the way they used to be”, right? You hear people saying that stuff? Or maybe you hear the phrase “new normal” and hopefully you barf a little in your mouth like I do.
If you were to travel in time, backwards or forwards, you probably wouldn’t be able to handle what you saw. Or, if you could, probably not for a very long time at least.
There is no “new” normal. Every single day is different and the conditions of our time will constantly be in flux until time ends or you die. What is normal? It’s absolutely un-definable, so please stop trying. Stop comparing today to yesterday. It doesn’t work, it causes futile thoughts, and will probably keep you from achieving your goals.
Do you agree or disagree?
